In 2006, I began this entrepreneurial journey by creating videos for parents on YouTube – Mr Thorne Does Phonics (now synonymous with engaging high quality phonics resources). Realising there was a demand out there for quality phonics materials I then began creating phonics apps for the iPad and iPhone to help young learners strengthen their reading skills.

My suite of 26 apps now includes maths, grammar and spelling activities; these have been ranked in the ‘top 30’ for their categories in over 50 countries worldwide and have been featured on numerous websites and in publications, such as the TES and the London Evening Standard.

I receive many emails about success stories from a wide range of people in different countries; most notably from parents with young readers, trainee teachers and adults who struggle to read and write. Children in other countries have been using these free resources too, with classrooms in South Africa, Brazil, Kuwait, India, Hong Kong and Russia, to name but a few, watching Geraldine the Giraffe as part of their daily phonics lessons.

I am currently teaching English to KS2 & KS3 at a school in Central London. My heart is in the classroom.
